Helping Teens to Get It Together

It’s All Too Much, So Get It Together, by Peter Walsh (New York Times bestselling author and TLC host), is a great book for teens and college students (and grownups) who need help getting organized and on track by figuring it all out and learning how to prioritize. It teaches the younger generation how to identify clutter – whether internal, external, mental, and/or physical, and how to get rid of it. This includes applying decluttering skills to ALL aspects of life such goals, school work, extracurricular activities, and relationships.

For example, Walsh writes that one of the excuses teens (and many other people) use to hang on to things is because they “might need it one day.” Really? Who needs 27 sheets of poster board or 1,483 mismatched buttons? Besides, it would take a week to find the matching button if you really did need it.

While planning for the future is important and is something we try to teach the younger generation to prepare for, saving stuff “just in case” is not the way. Peter Walsh teaches teens that, “No matter what your reasons for hanging on to your clutter, there’s an even better reason for getting rid of it: Getting rid of clutter will improve your life!”
